GreerMUG
November 2007 Meeting Highlights
Opening Moments
Mike opened with the sage observation that maybe fireplaces
shouldn't be made out of wood. Really?
Also, big thanks to First Church of the Nazarene for
allowing us to meet in their new youth building.
MemberDock
Matt updated us on some of the cool things that you can
find on the MemberDock and some of the nifty stuff that you
can find on OUR WEBSITE (greermug.com) like Classifieds.
iPhone Moment
Tim shared a great iPhone moment with us - always
enjoyable, it's one of the benefits of being at the
meeting.
Matt
Chandler's Shareware Report
iClip
iClip allows you to hit Command-C over and over again and
build up a composited clipboard. Wow! This could come in
kinda handy! Matt does a demo. There's both a free version
and a shareware version for $29. iClip appreciates your
support of their work. Good for bloggers or anyone who is
aggregating information.

Cyberduck
Cyberduck is an ftp browser. Easy to use interface. Matt
gives us a demo.
Here's the web address: http://cyberduck.ch/
Once again Show Notes couldn't keep up with everything that
was being said, so we decided to interview Cyberduck's Home
Page for more information.
Show Notes: Home Page, tell us what exactly is Cyberduck?
Home Page: Cyberduck is an open source FTP and SFTP (SSH
Secure File Transfer) browser licensed under the GPL with
an easy to use interface, integration with external editors
and support for many Mac OS X system technologies such as
Spotlight, Bonjour, the Keychain and AppleScript.
Show Notes: Are there localizations available?
Home Page: Localizations are available in English, Czech,
Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean,
Norwegian, Slovak, Spanish, Chinese (Traditional and
Simplified), Russian, Swedish, Danish, Polish, Hungarian,
Indonesian, Catalan, Welsh, Thai, Turkish and Hebrew. Many
thanks to all contributors!
Show Notes: Yes, it sounds like you have a lot of them! We
understand that Cyberduck is free, is there anything you'd
like to add?
Home Page: Donations. Free software is a matter of the
users freedom to run, copy, distribute, study, change and
improve the software. If you find this program useful,
please consider making a donation. It will help to make
Cyberduck even better!
Show Notes: Thanks, Home Page, for that informative
interview!

Core
Presentation
Tonight's Core Presentation is on some of the cool new
Spots in Leopard. Presented by Tim Godby.
CoverFlow
Tim observes that Apple has tweaked its icons so that they
have a huge amount of detail that shows up in CoverFlow -
the new way to look at your files in Finder.
QuickLook
QuickLook is available in CoverFlow and it is just what it
says: a quick way to look at what is inside a file right in
the Finder window. All without launching Preview or the
file's parent application. Whoa!! What a time saver!
Spaces
How about the incredible ability to organize your desktop
workspace by grouping together your different apps into
different windows (up to 16). Switch easily between them.
Tim gives us a demo.
New Features in Mail
How many of us have ever sent an email to ourselves? Now
Mail lets you set To-Do's so that you don't have to email
yourself anymore.
Also, a RSS Reader is now integrated right into Mail.
Tim also shows us iCal/Mail Integration,Data Detectors,and
Stationery. How cool is all that?

Widgets
Bill asks about doing widgets. Now, in Safari, you can
create portions of a webpage into a widget. Tim does a
demonstration. WAIT!! He doesn't just do a demonstration -
he starts a screen sharing with Bill's computer and shows
Bill how to do that on Bill's computer!! This is too much
power. Show Notes is starting to get mesmerized by all the
Leopard's spots.
Scrolling
Now you can scroll inside windows that are not active.
Subtle, and way cool, all at the same time!
Questions
and Answers
Wayne noted that Apple has made Leopard fully UNIX
compliant.
Member: Did Tim run into any glitches when he installed
Leopard?
Tim: No, not a single one. Well, there was a Keychain
issue, and Apple had a fix out for Keychain within 20 hours
of Leopard's release.
The group proceeded to have a really good question and
answer time. Great discussion. Just another benefit of
being at the meetings.
Giveaway
Tonight's give-away is a copy of OS X Leopard!!!!
Our winner tonight is Mary Ellen Hill! Mary Ellen, enjoy!
