GreerMUG
Meeting Highlights -- January 2006
Introduction of all the board members.
Member Dock
Matt "with no e" Nadeja presented the "Member Dock" that
has featured resources each month. Our January resource
was, OS X Tiger 10.4 by Robin Williams (not
the actor). if you didn't have time to check out this
really helpful guide to Tiger you can view a chapter online. Also the Member Dock
provides members and friends of Greer Mug with a place
to leave a question that will be read and followed up
either at the end of the meetings or through an email.
Safari Tip:
Send URL
in an email:
How often
do you send or receive links to web pages in your emails?
You see a cool web page, you want to share it with a friend
or family member, so you do something like this... You go
to your browser's address bar, highlight the url, and copy
that to the clipboard. Then you start up Mail, fill in the
recipient and the subject, and then paste the link into the
body of the email so you can send it. Click, click, click,
click, click, click... well, you get the idea.
Here's a faster way! Back in Safari click the leftmost icon
in your browser’s address bar - this selects the entire
url. Then use this keyboard shortcut: Shift -Command(Apple
Key) - i
In one step this shortcut opens Mail, starts
a new email, inserts the subject, and inserts the link into
the body of the email.
All you have to do is fill in the recipient, add a personal
note, and send!
Send URL the entire web page:
Hey, what if you could send whole web page? Then use this
keyboard shortcut: Command(Apple Key)-i
Once again a new email is automatically
started for you, only this time a copy of the web page is
inserted into the email.
OS X

How many of
us know that every Mac ships with a dictionary? AND that
it's always available? Want to take advantage of that?
Place your cursor in a word and use this keyboard shortcut:

A dictionary window pops up and Presto!
you’ve got the definition.

GarageBand 3
GarageBand 3 includes a few
features that let you can create your own podcasts! A
built-in Speech Enhancer optimizes the sound of your
voice and simulates a professional microphone, even
when you’re not using one. And a dynamic “ducking”
effect automatically reduces music volume when you
speak, so your listeners always hear the talk above
the tunes.
Garageband also now features iChat Interview Recording. Use
iChat and GarageBand together to record a talk
show-style podcast. GarageBand lets you record remote
guests from an audio or video iChat conference. Just
start chatting and GarageBand simultaneously records
the audio — one track for each guest, complete with
buddy name and icon, so you know who’s saying what and
when. And if you’re using iSight cameras to record the
action, GarageBand takes a photo snapshot of each
guest every time he or she speaks. That’s pretty cool.
